Since 2015, the European Film Academy has maintained a list of “Treasures of European Film Culture” documenting locations with special symbolic significance for European film history. The European Film Academy has added the Bio Skandia to this list. Other awardees include the Trevi Fountain in Rome and the Giant Ferris Wheel in Vienna. The Academy hopes that this initiative can help maintain these locations, landscapes, buildings and institutions for future generations.

Bio Skandia is one of the few cinemas in Europe with this award and the only public cinema in the Nordic countries. As well as one of 5 that have received the award in total in Sweden since 1987 (not 2015) and the others are not cinemas.
